The late film director, Akira Kurosawa, is often credited with introducing Japanese cinema to a foreign audience and inspiring filmmakers all over the world, winning many awards for his great career along the way. However he was also a gifted artist, so much so that his paintings were admitted to the prestigious Nika Exhibition at the age of 18. He went on to execute impressive storyboards, which became a part of the process to realize his imagination onscreen. It was through a series of storyboards Kurosawa managed to transmit the passion and vigor of his vision and win the backing of Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas when a budget crisis threatened the production of KAGEMUSHA, a Cannes Film Festival Golden Palm. Akira Kurosawa left a lasting legacy in the history of world cinema; we wish the storyboards painted in his own hand will be seen by as many people as possible, transcending borders and generations.
